Castiglione della Pescaia

Castiglione della Pescaia is a picturesque coastal resort renowned both in Italy and abroad for its beautiful beaches and lush pine forests that extend to Marina di Grosseto, including the majestic Pineta del Tombolo.
Its charming medieval village, perched on a promontory of Monte Petriccio, is surrounded by a fortified wall adorned with towers and a castle dating back to the 15th century.

This ancient village, with its charming canal port, bears witness to its history as a fishing community, as suggested by the name "della Pescaia." Every evening, fishing boats return to the harbor with their precious cargo of fresh fish, creating an authentic and lively atmosphere.

At one time, to the east of the town, there was the ancient Lake Prile, an Etruscan lake that became Portus Traianus under the Romans. Over the centuries, the lake gradually dried up, and the extensive marshland that resulted was reclaimed. Today, the nature reserve of Diaccia Botrona, which covers part of this area, is recognized as Italy's most significant wetland area and enjoys international importance due to its unique ecosystem.
The area offers opportunities for walking, horseback riding, and cycling along paved roads and trails immersed in the local fauna and flora.

In the surroundings, you will find interesting places such as Vetulonia, an Etruscan city that houses a necropolis and a museum of great interest. Tirli, a picturesque village, and the ancient village of Buriano, with its medieval castle, offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Maremma. A short distance away, Punta Ala is a luxury tourist destination with a cutting-edge harbor.
